Suspected Boko Haram insurgents December 21 stormed Geidam, the home town of Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam.

The Nation reports with reference to the locals that the militants looked like Touareg fighters from Mali.
One Mustapha Yunusa, whose house is located on the main access road
into the town, narrated how he saw scores of terrorists through his
window.
“I was able to see most of the boys because my house is located
very close to the main road entering Geidam. I saw them in large
numbers. They came in a convoy of Hilux vans before they disembarked and
divided themselves and started shouting all kinds of sounds in Arabic.
Most of the boys look very much like the Malian Touaregs.”
Another resident confirmed the invasion saying that he went on the
run as soon as the insurgents entered Geidam as it was clear that they
would launch an attack.
“We got news that the insurgents were advancing to Geidam
from Borno State through Damasak to Geidam so many people fled to other
villages.”
Before moving to the governor’s town, the insurgents were spotted praying in Yaro.
The number of casualties of Geidam attack could not be officially
ascertained, however a security source confirmed the incident saying
that the gunmen first attacked the military formation and then opened
fire in the town.
According to some reports the fighting between the military and the
terrorists is still ongoing, while the authorities ordered the
deployment of an Air Force to Geidam to force the terrorists out of the
town.
A resident who spoke with on the telephone said he heard the sound of the jet.
It would be recalled that last week Boko Haram attacked Damagun town of the state leaving several people dead.
