Hundreds Youth Corpers Protest Over Unpaid Allowance In Rivers

Early morning today, November, 21, Youth Corp members serving in Rivers state staged peace protests over unpaid of their ‘first allowance’.

The Corpers have blocked the main entrance of the Rivers State orientation camp preventing government officials from leaving and entering.

It was understood that the military personnel on Camp were sympathetic to the plight of the protesting youths – therefore they allowed the protest to continue.

According to unconfirmed sources, NYSC officials announced to Corps members that they won’t be able to pay their ‘first allowance’ in cash.

NYSC Orientation Camps for Batch ‘C’ corps members opened 4th November, 2014 – the camp closes on November, 25th.

It would be recalled on September 30, 2014, federal lawmakers began an inquest into the controversial N4, 000 online registration fee and consequently urged NYSC to suspend the policy.
In a related development, NYSC member, Abayomi Isaac Oyebukola accused of stealing N2.3m meant for 144 Corpers in Osun state has spoken out.
