Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant looks set to return to football as coach of the Ghana national side.
Grant,
59, has been out of football management since he left his job as boss
of Serbian side Partizan Belgrade. Earlier this year, he was appointed
technical director of Thai club BEC Tero Sasana.
According to
South African journalist Gary Al-Smith, Grant has signed a two-year deal
worth $600,000 a year and will receive a $200,000 signing-on fee. He
replaces James Kwesi Appiah who left the post by mutual consent in
September.
Grant’s last job in English football was in 2010-11
when he was manager of West Ham United, but he was sacked at the end of
the season following the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League.
He
also had spells as manager of Chelsea – with whom he reached the final
of the 2008 Champions League – and Portsmouth, who were relegated from
the Premier League at the end of his tenure but who also reached the
2010 FA Cup Final.
Grant will be unveiled as the Ghana coach later
this week but it is not clear if he will take charge of the side in
their vital Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier with Togo on Wednesday.
Ghana a victory to qualify for the finals in January.
