FLOYD Mayweather Jnr is unbeaten in 47 fights, has 10 world titles and five divisional crowns. Awesome record! He is born into a boxing family with his trainer father, Mayweather snr boasting of boxing record 28–6–1 (18 Kos). The father’s younger brother Roger was WBC Super featherweight and super lightweight champion. The youngest brother, Jeff, held the IBO Super featherweight title.
You can see that boxing runs in the blood of the Mayweathers. And what has accounted for the indefatigable nature of Floyd is his rich corner made up of the clan of the Mayweathers. Besides that, Floyd inherited his father’s defense and still jab tactic as well as his electric combination of his left and right. Against a southpaw Pacquiao, Floyd with his exceptional athletic foot-work will overwhelm him. Full respect to Pacquiao but whoever fixed this richest fight in history in May, must have Mayweather in mind as the winner.
Jacob Ajom – Prediction: Mayweather
Manny Pacquiao: He remains one of the most dangerous south paw in history. He is fast, precise and decisive. He may have had some problems in his last few fights because he was always caught between boxing and playing politics, a fact which affected his training schedules.
For this fight, Pacquiao has been focused, trained hard and rediscovered his fast stinging punches. Above all and beyond the money, the Philippino sees this fight as a battle of supremacy; ego, prestige and crave for history are the motivating force that
will propel him against the vocal Mayweather. He is ready to end the mystery behind Floyd Mayweather Jnr’s invincibility.
Ben Efe tips Mayweather
Ben Efe… Floyd Mayweather is flamboyant and has got class. He is a good fighter. He is very calculative and this is where he has the edge over Manny Pacquio. Going into this fight Mayweather seems to be the underdog. But with the crowd likely to be behind him, he should be able to overcome Pacman.
John Egbokhan - throws the dice for Mayweather
My heart roots for Pacquiao but in this game of boxing, sentiments don’t count. This is a fight that the Filipino Congressman has been angling for in the last five and half years to cement his name as the best pound for pound fighter of all time but against a focused Mayweather, the Filipino faces a boxer whose greatest asset is his ability to turn an offensive shot into another attack.
Even though I am a fan of Pacquiao and would remain so after May 2, I think Mayweather has got the reach to stem the tirades of his opponent and extend his unbeaten run to 48 fights out of a possible 48
Solomon Nwoke – My money on Pacman – Solomon Nwoke
My mind is on Manny Pacquiao. The ‘Pac Man’ is still at his physical peak and hasn’t lost a step. Pacman is the people’s man. When Pacquiao walks into the ring on May 2, he carries with him the story of a Filipino. Age is on his side while his opponent Floyd Mayweather is so loud he has lost many fans. Pacman is a fearsome puncher and I can’t wait to see the Pacman resurrect his killer punches. I put my money on Pacman
Onochie Anibeze – My money is on Mayweather
Biggest fight of all time? Fight of the century. No problem. With $380m down the line no one will argue about the status of this fight. But if the Thriller in Manila of Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazie and Rumble In The Jungle of Ali and George Foreman all in the 1970s held today they would probably be adjudged higher than this Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio fight.
The younger ones may argue but the older ones will bear me out. And history will also support this position. Pele is still adjudged the all time BEST. Ali remains the all time BEST in boxing. But it’s now the time of Mayweather, the money and flamboyant boxer and Pacquaio, the street boy who “came from nothing to be something.”
Based on what I have seen of the two fighters, I rate Paquaio a stronger fighter but Mayweather a better fighter. So who wins? The man with more wits, with more options in terms of style will have advantage. And that’s Mayweather. My money is on him. But age counts a lot in sports and he is two years older than his opponet, who lives a more disciplined life. Truly, it could go to Paquaio but my money is on Mayweather.
