According to the chairman of Chibok Development Association, Pogu Bitrus, the Boko Haram terrorists arrived in large numbers but where stopped from taking over the town by a combined team of Nigerian soldiers and the local vigilantes.
Boko Haram into Chibok yesterday evening, but now fighting is still going on,” he said.
Our vigilantes have received reinforcement from Damboa. The people in Chibok are fighting back alongside Nigerian soldiers. “You know there is only a platoon of soldiers at Chibok, because the military thought the place was safe. But now there is reinforcement.”
He said Chibok had not been captured, as the terrorists only take Askira, before seizing Chibok again.“They came not just in trucks, but in tanks,” he said.
And they came in large numbers. Some say about 500 or 1000 of them. But the people are fighting back. We pray Chibok does not fall to Boko Haram.”A serving senator from Borno state and a resident Pastor confirmed that Boko Haram men have captured Chibok community to AFP.
Most villagers fled for dear lives, he said.
It was reported earlier today that members of the blood thirsty terrorists group, Boko Haram have again launched an offensive in Chibok community in Borno State.
BokoHaram attack on Chibok may very be symbolic in nature, to humiliate the Nigerian government and the President Goodluck Jonathan.
Chibok is the same community where over 200 school girls were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School on April, 14.
The Nigerian military has recaptured Mubi a town in Adamawa state northern Nigeria from the Boko Haram insurgents yesterday.
