Fourteen journalists were on Sunday, November 16, abducted by
some ex-militants Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government
Area, Delta State.
The journalists were returning from a press conference, addressed by
the Itsekiri community of Ugborodo when they were ambushed on the
waterways at about 1 p.m.
At the place where they were held captive, their cameras, phones,
tape recorders, wristwatches and all they had were taken from them
except money.
The journalists were accused of being gunrunners as the ex-militants claimed to have found a pistol in one of their bags.
Ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo later
intervened and promised that they would all be handed over to the army,
after they had been brutally tortured.
They were later released and arrived Naval Base, Warri, the next day, Monday, at about 11.00 a.m.
