Bare 24 hours after report surfaced that Boko Haram insurgents as well as the government have agreed to ceasefire, Cameroon has claimed that its army killed 107 members of the sect.
According to Reuters report, the Defence Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o disclosed this in a statement.
He said clash occurred in two areas in the north on Wednesday and Thursday after the insurgents crossed the border between the towns of Amchide and Limani.
Eight Cameroonian soldiers were said to have been killed and seven wounded in the battle.
A Boko Haram vehicle packed with ammunition and explosives was destroyed and Cameroon troops now controlled the area, the statement said.
Cameroon has received its share of regular cross-border raids by the Boko Haram sect who have killed thousands and displaced countless people in its 5-year campaign to carve out an Islamist state in Nigeria’s northeast.
The government of Cameroon had earlier vowed to wipe out the insurgents who have wreaking havoc in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
However, report surfaced today that Boko Haram had agreed to ceasefire and also release the missing Chibok girls and all those in their captivity.
Though Boko Haram has not yet confirmed the report.
