The Nigerian Army yesterday, February 1, successfully repelled a Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri, Borno State.
The terrorists launched an attack on the capital city at about 3am but were engaged in a fierce battle by troops.
The fight against the Boko Haram members was also reportedly boosted by efforts of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The army’s victory has been confirmed by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade who said:
“The terrorists’ attack on Maiduguri in the early hours of Sunday was quickly contained. The terrorists incurred massive casualty."
“The situation is calm as mopping up operation in the affected area is ongoing,” he added in a text message to Vanguard.
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters also said that the military was able to recover armoured vehicles and artillery guns as well as other arms and vehicles from the terrorists.
