Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon will take the lead roles in the ‘Ghostbusters‘ reboot.
Director and writer Paul Feig took to Twitter yesterday (01.27.15) and appeared to confirm reports that the ‘Tammy’ actress, ‘Bridesmaids’ beauty and the two ‘Saturday Night Live’ stars will appear in the long-awaited spooky tale by posting a picture of the foursome, though there was no caption accompanying the image.
He also confirmed the Blockbuster will be released next summer, writing: “In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date! (sic)”
The movie has undergone a number of changes since it was first proposed.
Original director Ivan Reitman was due to take the helm, and Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had all agreed to return to the roles they first played in 1984, but Bill Murray remained uncommitted.
Reitman then pulled out following Ramis’ death last year, with Feig then approached to direct and reconceived the project as a reboot with an all-female cast.
The movie – which has been penned by Aykroyd and Katie Dippold – is expected to have a comic twist, while the 52-year-old filmmaker recently revealed he is aiming for the film to be scarier than its predecessors.
He said: “I want ours to be scarier than the original, to be quite honest. Katie Dippold and I are so focused on wanting to do scary comedy. We don’t want to hold back.”
Emma Stone, Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Lawrence were previously linked with the movie.
