8,000 APC Delegates Storm Lagos

No fewer than 8,000 delegates are expected to storm Lagos for the national convention of the All Progressive Congress, APC, scheduled to hold on 10-11 December, 2014.
According to the Chairman of the convention planning committee, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja, on Wednesday, the delegates, who are to converge on the Teslim Balogun Stadium, will elect the party’s presidential flag bearer who will challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election.
“As you may already be aware, our convention takes place on December 10 and 11 2014. The venue of our convention is Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State. It would be at the clear view of all Nigerians. Those who are not opportune to be there would view it through the TV or follow it on social media,” Fayemi said.
The former governor also assured all five aspirants of the APC as well as Nigerians that his committee has put in place a transparent process which will lead to a credible outcome that will be acceptable to all.

Fayemi explained that all of the party’s aspirants have been briefed on every step taken to ensure a hitch free national convention in Lagos.
It would be recalled that the event was earlier scheduled to hold at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Commenting on insinuations that his committee was planning to hold a coronation, Fayemi said the aspirants were going to face an election which will hold in the full glare of Nigerians and that no room would be left for speculations.
“All our aspirants have also been briefed on the various steps we’ve taken. Our committee is having our last meeting in Abuja today and we are relocating to the venue of the convention from this moment,” He said.
In response to a question as to how many delegates are expected at the convention, he said “We are expecting over 8,000 delegates.”

He equally said the committee carried along all the aspirants in arriving at decisions taken.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that five presidential aspirants of the party have been cleared by the Ogbonnaya Onu-led presidential screening committee to contest in the primaries.

The cleared aspirants are former Head of State, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, incumbent Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Imo State counterpart, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and the publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
