The Akwa Ibom State Police command has aborted a plot by aggrieved ex-militants to blow up the Calabar-Itu Bridge.
The revelation and subsequent arrest of the mastermind of the plot, Boronyefa Olorogun, alias General Bofa, through a link from two suspects: Samuel Coleman Yaw, a Ghanaian resident in Bakassi, and one Monday Anthony from Bakassi local government area of Cross River State, earlier arrested following a tip off.
Narrating this feat to newsmen at the police headquarters on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Gabriel Achong, said the command received information on the planned attack and promptly lunched an intensive surveillance which led to the arrests.
The police boss, who said that the suspects admitted to the commission of the crime, stated that the following items were recovered from the suspects; six (super power 90) explosives, five blasting laps, three rolls of detonating cords, one bundle of extra detonating cord and one Honda Accord 1997 model.
